I'm taking an astronomy course at college and my teacher has an account... Or... something on this website (unfortunately I don't know the name) that is for remote access to a telescope on a mountain in New Mexico.

Thats how I got the shot.

so you can log in to the telescope and see what it is seeing and capture a pic of it? So cool!!

Don't suppose anyone can do it...probably need some kind of access rights or passwords?

Its not as cool as all that. It doesn't take the pretty pictures like what I just uploaded- that happens afterwards with a photoshop plug-in and some tweeking to get the various chemical-filters to have any color (its origionally a gray cloud). Kind of hard to explain without actually showing someone the steps.

And, yeah, I'm fairly posative you need some special thing to log on. Though I'm told we'll get to take the pictures on our own (without the teacher standing right there and controlling it for you)later on in the semester, so maybe not. I'm hoping you don't need anything special, because I'd like to keep doing this after the class ends.

I do know, for the telescope, you need to time it right to use it, since only one person can operate it at a time (and some guy in Russia is apparently constantly hogging the thing).
